Festival of Hanukkah/Chanukah: Hanukkah commemorates the Maccabees who entered the Holy Temple and discovered that the oil used for the menorah had only enough oil for one day. Then a miracle occurred. The Maccabees lit the menorah and it burned for eight days. This is why Hanukkah is celebrated  for eight days. Hanukkah Menorah: Lighting of candles. The menorah (chanukkiah) holds 9 candles: 1 for each night, and a shamash of a different height.  Each night, another candle is added from right to left. On the eighth night, all nine candles are lit.
Hanukkah Dreidel (sevivon): A Hanukkah tradition is playing dreidel with Hebrew letters on each side. These letters represent "Nes Gadol Haya Po", which means "A Great Miracle Happened Here".  (if you are in Israel, Po-here, if you are in the diaspora, it is Sham-there)
Hanukkah Sufganiot (doughnuts) and Hanukkah Latkes (potato pancakes) It is traditional to eat fried foods on Hanukkah (because of the important meaning of oil on Hanukkah).
Hanukkah Geltl A traditional gift for the Hanukkah holiday is Hanukkah Gelt, a small amount of money. made of chocolates.
When is Hanukkah? Hanukkah in the Hebrew calendar always falls from 25th Kislev until 3rd Tevet.
Hanukkah will begin this  Jewish Year 5770 at sunset December 11 to December 19, 2009 at nightfall
