The Center for Professional Development at The New England Institute of Art today announced the launching of two 7-week workshop programs; one on Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Design and the second on Staging a Home for Sale.
The LEED Green Design workshop program is intended to promote awareness among students and professionals interested in developing sustainable interior design practices in residential and commercial interior spaces. Over the course of the 7-week program, that meets each Thursday evening, 7 – 10 pm at the College in Brookline Village, participants will be introduced to LEED and will learn the 8 categories established by the US Green Building Council (USGBC) to rate buildings and grant certification. Financial issues will be discussed and students will get to apply what they learn in a hands-on exercise. The workshop program is non-credit bearing and is not a preparatory workshop for the LEED AP exam.
“This is a growing movement and industry,” says Laurie White, Chair of the Center for Professional Development. “We know that many people who are in the field are becoming more aware and we want to be a resource for them.” The workshop program launches on October 29.
The second 7-week workshop program, scheduled to begin on November 2, will be an Advanced Studies Workshop in Staging a Home for Sale. This workshop for interior design professionals focuses on both the interior and exterior (curb appeal). Participants will learn how to stage a home – or condo – to enable the property to be sold quickly. Emphasis will be placed on evaluation of existing conditions, both architectural and esthetic, staging as a creative tool and the business of staging for profit.
“The current economy has many concerned when they put their property on the market,” says White. “Properly staging a home can be the difference between sealing a deal, or having the property languish on the market. It’s about adding revenue without increasing overhead.”
