"No one since Project Greenlight has allowed the winner of a film competition to direct a full length feature film", states attorney Tom Makedonski who heads both Phydeaux and Team Legal. "While most film or screenplay contests tantalize contestants with having the winner receive a phone call from some big Hollywood director or actor, there is little correlation between the winners, a film being produced and distributed internationally, and what its practical use is for the careers of the filmmakers".
The winning script will be produced in either Illinois, Michigan, Montreal, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, or any other place that has a high tax credit incentive which will be utilized as part of the winning film's financing structures.
While there is a $50 entree fee, all contestants must submit a reel in addition to a screenplay that showcases that they can in fact direct a film in addition to writing one. Whether the reel is a short film, music videos, commercials, etc., Reel Realities is is opening up the playing field to budding filmmakers and screenwriters in a tough economic climate.
"The reality is, studios are not really financing films internally and focusing on distribution"
"This is not a situation where the winner will just get an ego boost that he placed high in some contest and hoping he gets a call from an agent who may or may not read his material along with a pile of a thousand other scripts", adds Yuri Rutman, head of Noci Pictures Entertainment. "This will be a real film, financed and produced the real way, with real distribution options".
