Shop 3 , G/F , 32 Wyndham Street
Bacchus&Century will make available in its new shop this December at least one bottle of each vintage from 1900 to 2000.
Whether it is the vintage or the iconic wine or the prestige champagne corner, Bacchus&Century will not compare with existing wine retailers, importers and distributors as it will only offer bottles that would serve a very special occasion for its clients. For casual drinking or table wines, hongkongese have plenty of shops to choose from but when it comes to celebrating a special event, paying respect to a person or investing into the next Lafite Rothschild, there is a gap in Hong Kong that Bacchus&Century intend to bridge by individualizing customer service and professionalism.
Since Hong Kong scrapped taxes on wine imports in 2008, hundreds of new ventures around wine have mushroomed, providing plethora of choices for consumers. It is not uncommon to find retail shops selling wines from the old and new world without link. The same applies in terms of price when bottles worth HK$100 line up with HK$50,000 clarets.
Bacchus&Century differentiates itself by specializing into 3 core-offerings :
- The 20th century of only French vintage wine (no spirits) without any missing year is not an easy task to complete. It requires time, passion and perseverance especially when one thinks about the 1st or 2nd World War years or specific years like 46 , 51 , 54 , etc… where wine productions were extremely limited. Bacchus&Century wants to deliver to its customer a bit of history and art appreciation, from which one can buy originals, of course, not reproductions nor fakes !
Simply walk-in, for a present or for yourself, and you can be ensured to find “your” vintage without prior notice and walk out with the bottle in your hand.
The price will be also a unique point, as most of the bottles from Bordeaux, Burgundy, and other areas in France will be available at an affordable starting price of HK$1,000 which will translate into a wide range of vintages and bottle selection…
- The second core-offering is the Iconic French wines. Those mythical bottles will have their own section in the shop for the discerning buyers, undeterred by the substantially higher prices. For them, the vintage choice is not enough. They also want access to the “crème de la crème”, the finest and rarest ever.
- The third core-offering Champagne, follows the same logic. Bacchus&Century will only focus on Prestige cuvee. As a general rule, the brand does not offer non-vintage wine, so even excellent cuvees like Krug Grande Cuvee will not be sold. Vintage Clos du Mesnil or Clos d’Ambonnay will be the preferred replacement candidates as far as Krug is concerned.
