Teraco appoints top Data Centre expert as infrastructure grows

Highly respected senior figure in SA Data Centre market brings added expertise in large-scale operations to SA’s only provider of vendor neutral Data Centres.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Oct 21, 2009 -
Cape Town, SA  – Teraco Data Environments, the only vendor and carrier neutral Data Centre in South Africa, has announced the appointment of Gys Geyser as its new Operations Head from 1 October.

Geyser joins Teraco from Vodacom where he was the Executive Head of IP Platforms. Leveraging a decade of experience in the Data Centre industry, Geyser will be responsible for managing the building and facilities of Teraco’s Data Centres in Cape Town and Johannesburg, as well as further improving infrastructure and systems as new capacity comes on stream.

His experience of directing senior technical teams will aid the management team in the expansion of Teraco’s existing operations, and build-out of new facilities. Teraco operates a colocation facility in the Cape Town southern suburb of Rondebosch, which it launched in February 2009, with a second phase expansion already planned. Teraco will launch a Data Centre in Isando on the east side of Johannesburg in early 2010, expanded to 3 500 square metres over several phases. Teraco is also currently looking at possible sites in Durban for a third Data Centre facility.

Prior to Vodacom, Geyser was the Senior Manager of Operations at Internet Solutions, where his responsibilities included responsibility for the company’s Data Centre and hosting infrastructure and business continuity.

“We are very glad to welcome Gys to the Teraco team. He is the quintessential ‘safe pair of hands’, having overseen some of this country’s most sophisticated technology environments. He also has a proven track record in managing people and infrastructure, which is a rare and valuable combination,” says Lex van Wyk, managing director of Teraco. “Our business is growing fast, and we can make no compromise in ensuring we have the right people to deliver on our customers’ expectations of complete competence and reliability.”
