Billiard Table,Table Tennis Table

The mystery of the whereabouts of an antique Billiard Table has been solved after passing through a series of owners over the course of a century to apparently end up in its original home.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PR Log (Press Release)Oct 20, 2009 – The mystery of the whereabouts of an antique Billiard Table  has been solved after passing through a series of owners over the course of a century to apparently end up in its original home. The 19th-century table is about to go back on display at Speke Hall and staff are fairly sure it is the very same one that was given away by its last private occupier, more than 100 years ago.The full-size billiard table has had several owners since over the years, but was considered such an interesting antique piece it was handed back to the National Trust for specialist care.A delve into its history showed the tale it had to tell.Miss Adelaide Watt, who ran the Speke Hall estate until her death in 1921, got rid of the table and passed it on to a local working men's club in the late 19th century.
It disappeared from history until 2006, when Speke Hall was approached by Garston Park Church.House manager Lisa Downes said: The church was concerned about the safety of a very old Table Tennis Table which they'd had for many years in a vulnerable outbuilding. They offered the table as a gift to the National Trust, so we sent our curator and a furniture conservator to have a look at it.They returned the news that the table was, in fact, a wonderful example of a billiard table by renowned Lancaster furniture maker Gillows, and was likely to be similar to the original Billiard Table belonging to Speke Hall.It would turn out that it had been passed on to Garston Park Church from a school in the 1930s.And it had been on quite a journey before then, as the school had received it about 20 years earlier from a local working men's club, which had received it in turn from a local big house in the 19th century. The church had contacted a local billiard table firm who estimated it to date from approximately the 1850s.

Most of the slightly dingy hall is filled by, of course, the tables both 7 and 9 foot options are available. But there are also dartboards, a tabletop shuffleboard court, foosball and even a beer Billiard Table. There's a large lounge area, which Hammer Heads added shortly after its November 2006 opening, for people who want to sit the game out. Just then, I hear the opening notes to that awful 3 Doors Down song, Kryptonite, and I wonder why it's so loud. Ah, it's karaoke night.

Fortunately, there are only a few takers, and all of them with the notable exception of one, and he's with me are surprisingly talented. The talent matches the clientele a quirky mix of 20-somethings who are there to drink and mingle, and Gen-Xers in matching polos, clearly preparing for some upcoming team billiards tournament. In fact, pool is the main event here. The bar holds weekly tournaments (entry fees and prizes vary depending on the night), and the pros come in on occasion to show off their stuff. Hammer Heads' professional tournaments have even been covered in some of the major Table Tennis Table.

After we paid off our Table Tennis Table debt a little more than $7 an hour on a regular night I decided that Hammer Heads has struck a nice balance. For those who are super-experienced, there are plenty of tables and tournaments to keep you happy. But if you just want to knock a few balls around, no one is going to look at you sideways (although you might want to refrain from singing into your cue). And if you want to avoid the tables altogether, there are more than enough parties, special events and theme nights for you to enjoy in http://www.gndgs.com.
