For lovers of the mysterious and the macabre, The Old Schoolhouse Gallery offers a special art show with Lesley Long and Judith Rauchfuss, opening October 30.
The Old Schoolhouse Gallery in San Antonito is celebrating the traditional Mexican holiday The Day of the Dead by featuring two local artists whose work lends itself to the mysterious and the macabre. The show opens October 30, with a festive reception from 6-9 pm.
Lesley Long is known for her weird and whimsical paintings and drawings. Influenced by the dreamlike images of Marc Chagall and the vibrant, primitive paintings of Guagin, Lesley lets her imagination be her guide. Now Lesley has brewed up a whole new assortment of brave, deluded dogs, "scaredy" cats, and ominous ravens. They may scare you . . . or make you laugh . . . or maybe both.
The gallery also proudly features the dramatic masks of Judith Rauchfuss. Judith, the owner of Leopard's Leap, has been creating masks for over 20 years. She began as a dancer and performer creating the masks for herself. She liked the process so much, it became her main artistic focus. Judith finds herself inspired by sources as diverse as mythical creatures and the Italian Renaissance. Her masks range from fairly simple, fun and affordable, to elaborate, one-of-a-kind creations for the famous circus Cirque du Soleil.
Other gallery favorites, like award-winning children's book author, illustrator and artist, Neecy Twinem, will be contributing new works inspired by the Day of the Dead. The gallery also has a wide selection of jewelry, sculpture, prints, and original art in all price ranges.
The Day of the Dead opening is Friday, October 30 from 6pm to 9pm. Enjoy wine and cheese while viewing the art, and costumes are encouraged!
The gallery is located on the scenic Turquoise Trail at 12504 Highway N 14, approximately a quarter mile north of Frost Road. Regular gallery hours are from 10 am to 6 pm Wednesday through Friday and from 10 am to 6 pm Saturday, and 12 noon to 5 pm Sunday.
