Chuck Poole PalmTech Disaster Plan FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PRLog (Press Release) –
Oct 20, 2009 – Chuck Poole IT Consultant of PalmTech Computer Solutions in Palm Beach County Florida says the primary threats to computer equipment from a storm are:
1. Wind/rain intrusion due to structural damage. 2. Total structural collapse. 3. Flood Damage. 4. Lightning damage. 5. Theft due to looting after the storm. Any of these can be disastrous for a company. Plan ahead by doing at least the following before the storm or visit http://www.PalmTech.net for instant support: 1. Make multiple backups of all of the data and send it home with different employees. 2. Bring the Server home or take it off site to a secure weather-proof location. 3. If computers cannot be moved from the storm location, pick them up off the floor (in case of flooding) and secure them with plastic sheeting (in case of wind-storm damage). Make sure they are away from any windows and make sure whatever is used to secure the plastic over the computers will not come off in high winds. (Packing tape may work well for this). Do not operate a computer once it is wrapped in plastic as it will over-heat. Costco also has jumbo sized Ziplock bags that computers can be put in. 4. Unplug all electronic equipment from their sockets and turn off breakers if possible. This is due to the high likelihood of lightning and electrical surges as power lines are short circuited on one another. Think about this carefully: shutting off the breaker to an alarm system or a freezer (for example) may not be the best possible solution. It´s never too late to start or review an existing plan. Remember an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Chuck Poole IT Consultant of PalmTech Computer Solutions in Palm Beach County Florida hopes that a business won´t need any of this information, but if needed he will always be there to solve any storm related IT issues, just visit http://www.PalmTech.net for instant support. # # # Need More Customers?
