ATLANTA, GA -- According to Congress Daily's Carrie Dann, actor/animal welfare activist Leo Grillo and actor Robert Davi personally hit Rep. Thaddeus McCotter (R-MI) with Grillo's pet tax relief idea at a 2008 Christmas party. McCotter is a personal friend of Davi's. That led to McCotter's introduction of the Humanity and Pets Partnered Through the Years (HAPPY) Act.
Since last July, H.R. 3501 has received co-sponsorship from Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) with additional bi-partisan support expected as lawmakers hear from more consumers forced to give up their pets due to job layoffs, foreclosures and mounting vet costs.
“I can’t see how any lawmaker who really listened to his constituents could turn a blind eye to this issue,” Grillo told Congress Daily's Carrie Dann.
Grillo is founder and president of D.E.L.T.A. Rescue, the largest animal sanctuary of its type in the world. Grillo runs two hospitals at his mountaintop refuge, located northeast of Los Angeles, CA.
