San Diego Self Storage Provides Backpacks For Students

Oct. 17, 2009 - PRLog -- San Diego Self Storage (SDSS) participated in the Backpacks for Kids campaign in cooperation with the Feed the Children Foundation and KPRZ 1290 AM, which raised over $8200 to provide homeless children from San Diego area schools with backpacks and school supplies.  Annually, many homeless children return to school without the ability to purchase school supplies or backpacks; when families cannot afford these items, the child's chances for learning are severely hindered.  In response to this need, SDSS donated $3000 to launch the campaign and helped exceed the $6000 goal.
Each backpack, valued at $18, is equipped with all the essentials children need for school and is specified to the child’s age and educational requirements.  The backpacks are filled with items that include pads of paper, pencils, rulers, markers, erasers and glue along with basic hygiene items.   Many of these children have to share everyday necessities with siblings, such as toothbrushes, toothpaste and wash cloths, so these items are also provided. The successful SDSS campaign equated to over 450 backpacks being delivered to needy children throughout San Diego County and will improve their chances of succeeding academically.

According to SDSS Director of Operations, Kraig Haviland, "There are 1.5 million children who are homeless in the United States and 40% of these children are under the age of five. San Diego Self Storage is dedicated to helping children such as these in San Diego receive the supplies they need to remain in school and become productive, contributing adults.  We partnered with KPRZ radio to help us conduct an on-air campaign and broaden our reach in gaining additional donations to achieve our goal---our self storage facilities are widespread throughout the county and this radio campaign enabled us to reach out to generous donors who reside within the neighborhoods we serve.  We are thrilled that the crusade we spearheaded exceeded our goal. "
