RS Classic Car Tour 2010

Kendal based Classic Car Tours (MK) has created a two day event specifically aimed at owners of the Ford RS brand of performance cars.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Oct 17, 2009 -
The event is scheduled for the weekend of 17/18 April 2010 and will feature some of the finest driving roads in northern England, plus a great social side with a chance for RS owners to meet fellow enthusiasts and drive their cars in perfect surroundings.

The proposed itinerary is as follows:

DAY ONE
Start from Crooklands 9.30 take ‘back lanes’ to Kirkby Lonsdale, then A65 to Ingleton, B6255 pass Ribblehead Viaduct to Hawes. Good driving road.
Coffee stop at Simmonstone Hall.
Then Buttertubs Pass, featured in ‘Top Gear’ road tests, into Swaledale then some single track moorland roads criss-crossing the fells with spectacular views.
Lunch at the CB Inn, Arkengarthdale, James Herriot country.
Then good moorland roads through Stang Forest to Barnard Castle. Some more narrow roads around the reservoirs onto the B6274 to Brough. Good fast driving with some tricky bends!
Interesting country roads to Tan Hill, Britain’s highest pub (optional stop!), more moorland roads back into Swaledale, then a good B road from Keld to Nateby with spectacular views over the Eden Valley. Then south on the very fast sweeping and undulating B6259 and the A685 to Sedbergh.
Tea at the Farfield Mill and Craft Centre.
Final leg through Barbondale, back up the A683 and then the A684 over the M6 to Kendal and back to Crooklands for dinner.

DAY TWO
Take the B road from Crooklands to Milnthorpe and via some little single track roads to Levens Bridge. Then up the fast A5074 Lythe Valley towards Windermere before doubling back over the narrower and twistier minor road to Gummers How with its views over Windermere Lake and a stop for coffee at Newby Bridge.
‘Back roads’ again from here to the A5084 to the shores of Coniston Water then a single track road past Broughton Forest with views over the Duddon Estuary to Barrow in Furness on a clear day. Then a fast moorland run over Corney Fell to lunch at Muncaster Castle.
The afternoon run is then much slower but the views need to be appreciated! First there are the dramatic scree slopes at Wastwater before we thread our way through the narrow but picturesque Eskdale valley, following ‘La’al Ratty’, the narrow gauge Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, before the climax of the event! We finish with a traverse of the twin passes, Hardknott and Wrynose with their 1 in 4 gradients and multiple hairpin bends. There is a little breather as we pass down beautiful Langdale to Ambleside before tackling ‘the Struggle’ which climbs to the summit of Kirkstone Pass. There is then just the run down the pass back to Windermere for afternoon tea and chance to say our farewells.

Distances covered will approximately 150 miles per day.

Cost for a basic package is £299 (per car with driver and one passenger) subject to a minimum of ten bookings and includes one night dinner, bed and breakfast, plus coffee, lunch and tea on Saturday, coffee and afternoon tea on Sunday and entry to Muncaster Castle and Farfield Mill.

EXTRA NIGHTS at the Crooklands Hotel approx. £100 per room, per night, based on 2009 prices. (A group rate may be negotiable).
