To celebrate and educate during National Adoption Awareness Month, the NC Coalition for Adoption Reform will be showing two movies to multiple NC County Division of Social Service Agencies and Support Groups.
Roots: Unknown is a forty five minute documentary examining the lifelong impact of adoption It focuses on the emotional influence adoption has on the adoptee and their families. It examines such questions as: How does being adopted affect each relationship?
Unlocking the Heart of Adoption by Sheila Ganz is a one hour long documentary bridging the gap between birth and adoptive families through diverse personal stories of adoptees, birthparents and adoptive parents in same race and trans-racial adoptions interwoven with the filmmaker’s story as a birthmother revealing the enormous complexities in their lives with fascinating historical background.
The Triangle Adoption Support Group in Durham NC will start the kick-off of National Adoption month by having a showing on November 1, 2009, at Weichert Realty - 3901 University Drive, starting at 3:30pm.
Other showings of these films will be November 4, 9:30a.m. at Onslow County Division of Social Services contact (Annette Johnson 910 989-1013).
On November 5, 9:00am members of NCCAR will show Vance County Division of Social Service contact (Carol Reavis 252 436-0407 ext 247) the documentary,
NCCAR will be at the Martin County Division of Social Services on November 10, at 10:00a.m. (Susan Davenport 252 789-4402) and then will have a showing at 6:00 p.m at the Adoption Triad Dialogue Group, 1002 Yanceyville St, Greensboro, NC. contact (Roberta MacDonald 919 321-8551).
