Although not a new concept, Veterinary Hospice is rapidly gaining momentum as veterinarians learn to listen to the needs and desires of their clients. Just as the demand for additional diagnostics increases, so does the number of clients that simply want to keep their terminally ill pet comfortable until it’s “their time.” Too many times we’re left with the dreaded phrase, “There’s nothing more we can do.”
This desire to help owners bridge that final gap has lead to the development of an in-home hospice and euthanasia service, Lap of Love Veterinary Hospice. In line with the human hospice concept, the veterinary hospice model is focused on palliative care of terminally ill pets whose owners no longer wish to seek curative or aggressive treatment. The focus is on providing the maximum level of comfort while maintaining the highest quality of life by supporting the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of the pet and their family through the end of life process. Lap of Love Veterinary Hospice is an adjunct service provided to clients and is not designed to replace the care of a general practitioner.
Compassionate in-home euthanasia is another important service Lap of Love Veterinary Hospice provides, with or without previous hospice care. There are numerous benefits to this service, most of which center around the comfort and privacy of your own home. This is also an important service for large animals that are very difficult to transport to the veterinarian. Allowing pets to experience their last moments in the most comfortable environment possible is our last gift our dying pets, and allowing the owners to grieve in privacy is a vet’s last gift to the client.
Please feel free to browse our brochure and website to get a better idea of the services Lap of Love provides.
Warmly,
Dani McVety, DVM
