Walki-talki.com LLC is pleased to announce that its acclaimed self guided walking tours are now available on the iPhone. The growing list of titles includes most major European destinations. Each tour consists of 12-17 audio tracks describing the history and culture of the city. Visitors can follow the tour along the route defined in the interactive map or choose to follow a completely random route.
Tour apps are available from the App Store for just $9.99. The original MP3 package and printable PDF map continue to be available at www.walki-talki.com for only $8.99. The growing catalog currently contains tours of 12 top European destinations:
Walki-talki.com tours have received reviews and top accolades from Holiday Which?, The Washington Post, the BBC, The Telegraph (UK) and other sources, and have been widely recognized as the most informative, entertaining, and user friendly tours on the market.
Although the plain mp3 audio and pdf map packages through the web site are straightforward to use, the iPhone app makes for an easier and richer user experience. With the original tour packages, the user must load the audio files onto their media player manually and print the pdf map. In contrast, installation of the tour package on the iPhone requires exactly one click on the "buy" button in the App Store, and the built-in, interactive map obviates the need for a printed map, thus saving the user effort. In both instances the user is free to follow the route defined in the map, or to follow his or her own route of choice.
The iPhone app is entirely self-contained and includes an interactive map, audio tracks and an instructive image for each track. Tracks can be selected by pressing the tour stop location, or by using the familiar buttons that allow the user to play the current track, to skip to the next track or to skip to the previous track. A pop-up flag identifies the currently selected track, and clicking the right-pointing arrow in the popup will take the user to a new screen with an image that is relevant to that particular stop. Because the app is self-contained, there is no need for an Internet connection. Hence, the tour is always available, and there are no costly overseas data roaming charges.
Digital self guided tours are ideal for travelers with a constrained schedule, ones who eschew large tourist groups, those on a budget, or those who prefer to wander at their own pace and to take the occasional detour. Not surprisingly, therefore, walki-talki.com’
