CHICAGO, IL (OCTOBER 15, 2009) – The American Lung Association in Greater Chicago’s Fight For Air Climb is now accepting registrations for their 2010 event to promote healthy air and lungs.  Athletes and those with a competitive spirit can sign up for two unique stairclimb challenges, held at Chicago’s Presidential Towers on March 21, 2010, at www.fightforairclimb.org.

“Lung cancer is the number one cancer killer of men and women in the United States,” explains Harold Wimmer, President & CEO of the American Lung Association in Greater Chicago. “We hope that this event will create a greater awareness of the disease’s prevalence and raise the valuable funds needed to help Chicagoans prevent and fight lung cancer and other lung diseases.”

The World’s Greatest Urban Stairclimb Challenge is an unprecedented test of endurance where participants climb all four of the Presidential Towers for a total of 2,340 steps – more steps than any other indoor stairclimb event.  Fueling Chicago’s competitive spirit, climbers can also form teams of four to tackle the towers together in Chicago’s Only Stairclimb Relay Challenge.

“Last year’s event raised over $140,000 to help Chicago residents fight the diseases and poisons that harm the lungs of our families and communities,” says Wimmer.  “We hope to raise over $170,000 this year to continue that effort.”

Now in its second century, the American Lung Association is the leading organization working to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease.  With the generous support of donors, the American Lung Association is “Fighting for Air” through research, education and advocacy. For more information about the American Lung Association, a Charity Navigator Four Star Charity and holder of the Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Guide Seal, or to support the work it does, call 1-800-LUNG-USA (1-800-586-4872) or visit www.lungil.org.
