Follow on Google News | Images of Tragedy and Hope in SudanRefugees International's New York Circle features photography by Ann Curry and a short documentary by Matt Dillon
By: Refugees International "While on a Refugees International mission to southern Sudan earlier this year, I saw firsthand the struggles of refugees as they make the difficult journey home," said Refugees International board member Matt Dillon. "My short documentary is just a small window to the lack of basic services for refugees returning after twenty years of war and the mounting tensions between north and south Sudan. My hope is that people walk away from this experience with a little more information and empathy for the situation and the people of southern Sudan." "Photographing Darfur's war refugees teaches you something about humility and resilience. Rather than shy away, these victims of ethnic cleansing actually thank you for taking their pictures, knowing on some level that your images are proof they existed and mattered," said Ann Curry. "It seems right to show these images on behalf of Refugees International, which eases this kind of human suffering all over the world."
