The goal of the COLLEGE FOOD FIGHT contest is to raise awareness in the academic world and among educational institutions about the importance and prevalence of worldwide food security issues by creating the largest food drive of all time. Artists, colleges and universities throughout the country will be encouraged to incorporate food drives into every event hosted by their school.
The Food and Agriculture Association (FAO) of the United Nations estimates that there are 1 billion hungry people worldwide (2009). FightWithFood.ORG hopes that the COLLEGE FOOD FIGHT will be the largest food fight this year, offering college associates and students various opportunities to join the fight to end hunger. Participants will be encouraged to work with colleges and university radio stations and other media outlets to promote the contest inviting students, alumni, faculty and staff to join the fight. Proceeds and volunteer hours will be tracked online at FightWithFood.ORG and local food banks will benefit from the proceeds.
The COLLEGE FOOD FIGHT contest will start on World Hunger Day (October 16th 2009) and all submissions must be received by April 2nd 2010. Prizes will range from a free concert to national recognition, but in the end everyone wins when you contribute to your community. Contestants must review the rules and guidelines of the COLLEGE FOOD FIGHT and register online at FightWithFood.ORG by December 31st 2009.
