AZCREW, a founding chapter of CREW Network (a national organization of +8,000 female executives in commercial real estate), announces its 2009 Annual Meeting to be held on October 20th at the Arizona Biltmore Resort.
The topic has is one of lofty expectations and goals - and one that, not so long ago, would have seemed somewhat surreal. "Too low they aim, those that build only beneath our limitless skies," a paraphrasing of British poet and playwright Edward Young (1683-1765), is the promotional tag for a program that features a panel of similarly high-profile thought leaders in the community.
The Hon. Scott Smith, Mayor of Mesa, Dr. William Harris, chief executive officer and president of Science Foundation Arizona, and Karrin Kunasek Taylor, executive vice president and chief entitlements officer of DMB Associates, Inc. will discuss this public-private initiative to lead economic development for the long-term future.
"It's an entirely different view for us," says Eileen O'Brien, president of AZCREW and western regional director of business development and marketing for JCJ Architecture. "For an industry that has long been focused on what the land can offer, to look to the skies and work with knowledge-based economic partners is a compelling new strategy for growth." AZCREW’
The program will review how DMB, one of Arizona's top real estate developers, and their project at the Mesa Proving Grounds have spurred the creation of this statewide effort to grow the state's economy for the long term future.
It will also cover the story behind the creation of the Aerospace Institute, and specifically how it will impact the future of Arizona’s economic growth and prosperity. For decades, the aerospace and aviation industry in Arizona has offered our state a highly technical and high paying industry that benefits all Arizonans. The Aerospace Institute's leadership will not only promote the retention and expansion of this segment of Arizona’s economy, but will also attract other aerospace industry-related economic activity and the high-paying jobs that accompany such growth. A study conducted last year by Arizona State University indicated the Institute could contribute up to $72 million in earnings and 1,320 jobs to the state’s economy.
"We'll touch on how the Institute - a collaborative effort among business, government and academic stakeholders in the aerospace industry - will focus on protecting and growing this critical and diverse industry in Arizona," says Mindy Korth, executive vice president of CB Richard Ellis and co-chair of AZCREW's program committee.
The meeting begins at 11.30, with open networking, followed by lunch, the program and a question and answer period, and is expected to end at 1.30pm. Costs are $40 for members, and $65 for non-members. The general public and press are welcome to attend. Registration online at http://www.arizonacrew.org
