Daylon Graphics today released the second major version of its Landshaper terrain modeling programs, Landshaper 2.0 and Landshaper Golf 3.0. The improvements are identical for both.
Terrain painting is greatly enhanced -- vector shapes can be filled and stroked with patterns and textures. The content can be procedural or based on image files. Effects include color, bumpmapping, glossmapping (specular highlighting)
"We made the texture library really easy to use." explains Ray Gardener, Daylon's administrator. "Users can build and modify textures without the traditional complexity."
The raytracer adds transparent backgrounds for post compositing and a tool for partial rendering when only small areas of the display need to be checked.
Under the hood, the GDAL library is upgraded to version 1.6.2. This improves stability and offers more options when doing file import/export.
Pricing remains unchanged, with Landshaper at $2495 and Landshaper Golf at $4995 USD. Existing users with active support terms can upgrade free of charge.
