Oct. 12, 2009 - PRLog -- Media business analyst and consultant William Dunkerley has released a new analysis entitled “The Yeltsin Scandal.” As Dunkerley explains, “The Yeltsin Scandal opens with a drunken Boris Yeltsin hailing a cab in his underwear across from the White House in Washington.” But that’s just the beginning, Dunkerley says. His analysis of the scandal, published by OpEdNews.com, compares Western media coverage of Yeltsin and his successor, Vladimir Putin.

Dunkerley argues that the Western press has treated Putin’s presidency with undue harshness, while glossing over some of the darker angles of Yeltsin’s legacy. He explores the Western press claim that Putin was involved in the murder of Alexander Litvinenko, despite a lack of evidence, and the soft coverage given to Yeltsin’s 1993 attack on Parliament, which claimed 150 lives. His op-ed analysis of Russian press coverage includes headlines from popular Western press outlets, which show a marked difference in tone between coverage of Yeltsin and Putin.

Dunkerley also scrutinizes the alleged Putin crackdown on the Russian free press and provides readers with a link to his analysis of the incident.
