Long Beach, CA – Auto body repair shops are not often a great concern when we think about water pollution control; however, they are not a waterless operation. Water is required for wet sanding. Cars must be washed before and after auto body repair and painting.
The Department of Environmental Management (DEM) closely monitors those auto body shops with floor drains, especially those who choose to use drains that are not connected to the city sewer system.
By law, sanding/metallic dust or other auto body shop waste products may not be washed down open floor drains. They must be disposed of in accordance with federal, state and local regulations.
