New England windsor chair & American antique reproduction furniture manufacturer, Dungan-Tingley Chair Works is fully operational after a fire in January of 2008 that totally destroyed the furniture workshop.
“It has taken a while,” stated owner Bill Morse, “but our new building is up, tools are in place, and we’re filling orders.”
Located in Dunbarton, N.H., the company’s reproduction furniture includes Windsor chairs, dining tables, end tables, hutches and bar stools, all in several styles and made with high grade tiger maple and cherry wood. Various finishes are offered as well, all personally applied by Morse.
The furniture is built using the same techniques as early American craftsmen, and replacing some of the old, superior American made tools lost in the fire proved difficult. One in particular, a seat disher made in Amish country, has still not been replaced.
“Apparently the company is long gone,” Morse explained.
But that loss has certainly not stopped the furniture production. And, despite the current economic crisis, windsor chair & table orders have been fairly steady so far this year. Morse believes people are looking for quality now more than ever, and they appreciate the fact that this is American made furniture.
“Because we use the tried and true techniques developed by furniture craftsmen of the 17 and 1800’s, our furniture is built to last for generations,”
One advantage of a new furniture workshop is that it accommodates visitors better than the original building. Website customers ( www.dungan-tingleychairworks.com ) frequently make appointments to stop in and finalize their orders at that time. This gives them the opportunity to see styles and finishes of our hand crafted furniture first hand.
