GI Healthcare to Participate in Annual Local Church Health Fair on October 24th

Raleigh practice to discuss the importance of GI health and colon cancer prevention

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PR Log (Press Release)Oct 12, 2009 – RALEIGH, NC – GI Healthcare (GIH) has announced that they will be participating in the Springfield Baptist Church Annual Health Fair to be held on Saturday, October 24th.  The event will be held in the James A. Gibson Fellowship Hall from 10:00am – 2:00pm located at 4309 Auburn-Knightdale Road in Raleigh.

GI Healthcare provides a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic gastrointestinal endoscopy, including colonoscopy and upper endoscopy. Dr. Robert Harper is co-owner of GI Healthcare and is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.  He’s been practicing medicine in Raleigh since the mid 1980s and says that he’s looking forward to talking with fair attendees and communicating the importance of good digestive health.

“Our digestive system is highly sensitive and subsequently reacts to the stressors that come with daily life,” explains Dr. Harper.  “Stomachaches and other digestive problems are the gut’s natural reaction to stress, and it’s important to understand and control these influences if we want our body to function at its optimal level.”

Dr. Harper says that most of the time he spends with patients at GIH is dedicated to education.  Understanding a patient’s current lifestyle is key to making changes for long-term health benefits.  He says that the two big things that individuals should do is make positive changes to their diet and to exercise.

“Making fresh food choices and committing to a regular exercise routine make it easier for our bodies to digest meals and absorb nutrients,” adds Dr. Harper.  Consequently, these choices will also help an individual attain a healthy body weight, which is another essential step toward good digestive health.”

GIH will be offering fair goers information on their practice and will be discussing the role they play in their patients’ GI healthcare.  Those patients include individuals with symptoms and those who need screening and colonoscopy to prevent colon cancer.  For more information about the Health Fair, contact Wanda Jackson, Enlightenment Ministry, at (919) 772-8078.
