ETSI is pleased to announce its next conference for users of the test specification language TTCN-3 in Bangalore, India, from 17 to 19 November 2009. The decision to hold the event is India is a reflection of the huge interest in the region in this versatile and powerful software language.
The TTCN-3 Asia User Conference is being organized jointly by ETSI (the European Telecommunications Standards Institute) and ISQT, a Bangalore-based training and consultancy company with specialising in software testing and test automation. Technical support to the event will be provided by Wipro Technologies.
TTCN-3 (Testing and Test Control Notation version 3) is a mature, standardized testing technology for test specifications and test implementation. Its traditional stronghold is in testing communication protocols. However, its flexibility and adaptability has led to it becoming a universal and adaptable language suitable for testing a large variety of application domains that now include transportation, internet, medical, web-based services and distributed systems.
TTCN-3 was developed by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) and is the only standardized test specification language. TTCN-3 has also been adopted by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). TTCN-3 has all the benefits of a standardized software language. With TTCN-3, test systems move from being expensive proprietary solutions designed for a single purpose to highly adaptive software test platforms that support a variety of tests that may be used throughout system development, system approval and acceptance tests.
In recent years Asia has discovered the value of this application-
TTCN-3 examination
Testing projects can involve numerous developers and can produce more than 100 000 lines of code. A high level of code quality is fundamental and this demands well-trained, highly-qualified testing specialists.
To this end, a TTCN-3 certification scheme has been established, based on a syllabus established by the German Testing Board. During this event, as at other TTCN-3 user conferences, participants will have the opportunity to take the TTCN-3 Certificate examination. The examination is designed to confirm candidates' abilities to design and plan project-specific tests and formalize them in TTCN-3, as well as defining adequate test strategies including test objectives, test purposes, test configurations, test suites and the realization of tests on target test platforms. The examination, which costs €300, will take place on 19 November at the conference venue, the Convention Centre of the National Institute of Mental Health & Neuro Sciences in Bangalore
About TTCN-3
TTCN-3 is an internationally standardized testing language, formally known as Testing and Test Control Notation Version 3. TTCN-3 is different from conventional programming or scripting languages as it has been specifically designed for testing. The language is not restricted to conformance testing and can be used for many other kinds of testing including interoperability, robustness, regression, system and integration testing. Off-the-shelf tools and test systems based on the language are readily available from a variety of vendors.
TTCN-3 is a product of ETSI's Technical Committee MTS (Methods for Testing and Specification)
