This is the first time the annual Thrill the World event has taken place in Washington, DC since a small group of people participated in 2007. Johanna Sandoval, a Northern Virginia resident decided to bring the event back to Washington, DC and turn the event into an image of the culture of the Washington Metro Area. The event which is being held at the historic Freedom Plaza will raise proceeds not only for the Paralyzed Veterans of America but also for a variety of charities through the efforts of the CFC.
The evening will feature a variety of musicians, performance artists and other entertainers in an entertainment showcase prior to the feature dance performance which is expected to draw hundreds of dancing zombies to simultaneously perform the choreography of Michael Jackson’s Thriller with groups in over 100 cities around the world. The performance is an attempt to break a World Record for the largest simultaneous (multiple location) worldwide Thriller dance which was set in 2008 by 4,179 people ranging from ages 5 to 55+.
“The Thriller dance is a dance that anyone can learn in a few hours, even if they have never danced,” Ines Markelle, choreographer and founder of the Canada based Thrill the World organization. The Thrill the World DC group is providing Free Public Dance Workshops for participants to learn how to dance the Thriller dance. The organization has a suggested donation for participant registration, but admission to the event is 100% free.
