MRA BETWEEN CA INDIA AND CPA AUSTRALIA & CA AUSTRALIA

Sydney, NSW October 11, 2009 –To commemorate the reciprocal recognition arrangements between the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), CPA Australia and CA Australia (ICAA), the Australian chapter of ICAI (Chapter) organised a member’s meet in Sydney, Canberra & Brisbane during 1-9 October, 2009.

CA India is second largest accounting body (approx 150k members and over 500k Students) in the world and its members are serving in most of the countries of the world. Australian Chapter of ICAI is directly assisting it’s members to take advantage of MRA between CA India and CA Australia and CPA Australia and Visa versa.

A thirty three members Indian delegation which included ICAI President CA Uttam P Aggarwal and eminent chartered accountants met with the officials CA Australia & CPA Australia and members of various industry groups were provided insights to the economic and regulatory environment in Australia.

Mr Graham Mayer, CEO of CA Australia awarded honorary CA Australia membership to CA India President Uttam P Aggarwal.  

Australian Chapter of ICAI showcased the vast investment opportunities available to Indian businesses in Agribusiness, Property and Mining sectors in Australia. Specialist speakers were from Austrade, CA Australia, Deloitte, RFC Corporate Finance Ltd and Impact Minerals Ltd.

Mr Bill Palmer, FCA and Director of CA Australia, presented topic “How to do business in Australia” which was very meaningful and relevant.

At last leg of Study tour, delegates were taken to Gujrat NRE Coke Ltd, Wollongong where they had face to face interactions with Mr Arun Jagatramka, Chairman of the company re his business experience in Australia.    

During Chapter‘s third  Diwali Gala Nite on 3rd Oct, Indian Delegates & Alex Malley, CEO and Paul Wappett, Executive Director International Div of CPA Australia and Chairman of Gujrat NRE Coke Ltd were honoured.

The visit was highly successful and will go a long way in fostering a long term mutually beneficial relationship amongst the professionals of both countries. It also sets an example for State & Federal governments to use bodies like Australian Chapter of ICAI to promote it’s business and strategic interests.

To further promote Accounting profession and Australian & India interests, Australian Chapter of ICAI has opened it’s centres in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Perth & Sydney where it conduct monthly CPD events & Networking sessions. Chapter is planning to open centres in cities in Hobart, Darwin, Wollongong and Newcastle and any other place with more than 10 ICAI Members.
