By: TEFL England As the recession has taken a firmer hold and redundancy is on the increase, many are turning to alternative jobs to ride the recession. Teaching English as a Foreign Language is one such option and since there are no other qualifications required other than the ability to speak English, many are finding that training to teach English provides them with a viable career choice in tough economic times. Joe Hallwood, founder of TEFL England, remarked, “Teaching English abroad is open to anyone who has English as their first language and therefore becomes a real alternative for people from all kinds of backgrounds.” But, why should the demand for English teachers abroad be so high when the recession is a global problem? English has become the world’s Lingua Franca and for many learning English is necessary for finding work. According to the British Council the number of people learning English in the world is set to peak at 2 billion in the next 10 – 15 years. It is not hard to see then why native-speakers are needed to help improve the standard of English of students in schools the world over. So, for some organisations, like TEFL England, the recession is proving to be a growth period, offering alternatives to those more hard hit by the economic downturn. http://www.teflengland.co.uk # # # TEFL England provides TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) courses and jobs for anyone wanting to find paid work abroad.
