A few months later, it was a curious sight to witness people gathered around town hall meeting sites bearing signs depicting the President as Hitler, a socialist or a tyrant. Some even carried guns and a pastor prayed that Obama would die. A Republican Congressman called President Obama a liar on national television during his health-care speech to a joint session of Congress. There was something much deeper at play with President Obama and it centered on his race.
Some of the votes that went against the victor in the general election were because of an inability of many to cast their vote for a black man.
Exit polling showed a skew in the proportion of white voters who supported John McCain versus the percentage that voted for John Kerry in 2004. Obama’s loss of most southern states and many sparsely populated states in the middle of the country displayed a schism in voting patterns. That split expressed itself later through angry outbursts from individual citizens and members of the media
