Allan Lake Sculpted Furniture finds the Rainbow’s End

The workshop of sculpted wood furniture designer, Allan Lake, has unveiled the Rainbow Desk; a three drawer writing desk that springs into view like a living, organic form, self-created from the woodland floor as though by magic.

Oct. 8, 2009 - PRLog -- Drawing on sustainable Britsh woodland resources, the desk combines technical craftsmanship with design visioning, its pendulous, curved drawers hanging like a great fungi and catching the eye with their mesmerising swirls and shades.

Sinuous legs reflect the natural kaleidoscope of the native British woodland; the rich, burred brown of walnut, the pale beauty of sycamore, the striking orange of yew wood and the soft red-brown of elm.

A stylish inlay of oak adds a striking design feature to the desk top, whilst curved handles of multicoloured wood add a finishing touch of charm.

Allan says: “To make this unique piece of furniture, I drew inspiration from the room and environment in which it will live as well as the tastes and character of my client, using an intuitive understanding of various native woods to make the envisioned piece come alive.

“By combining traditional and contemporary furniture making techniques, I create pieces straight from the imagination, using technical skills to give balance to sinuous, sprouting or hanging forms. The result is furniture that at once seems to be both a natural and magical creation”.
