Oct. 8, 2009 - PRLog -- The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, with support from the Community Foundation for Livingston County, awarded grants totaling $27,500 to three Livingston County area nonprofits at its October Board meeting.

The organizations receiving support from the Community Foundation include: Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Livingston County, the City of Howell and the Judson Center Inc.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Livingston County received a grant of $10,000 to support the continuation of an after-school mentoring program called The Big Futures program. This program utilizes adult and high school mentors who are matched with elementary students for one day each week. This grant will allow Big Brothers/Big Sisters to maintain the program throughout the upcoming school year in Brighton, Hartland, Howell, and Pinckney, while also adding a new site in Fowlerville.

The City of Howell received a grant of $10,000 to support the creation of a resident engagement center. The resident engagement center will serve as the hub of programming designed to address foreclosure prevention, increase or stabilize home ownership, and conduct home repairs and weatherization for low and moderate-income homeowners and seniors.

The Judson Center Inc. received a grant of $7,500 (over 2 years) to support the continuation of a program for families with children at-risk for out-of-home placement in Livingston County. This program at Judson Center provides parents and children with a much-needed system of support in order to keep at-risk families safe and intact in their own homes.
