Yellow Crane Pavilion Demonstrates What What Everyone Should Know About Chinese Music

Specialized creative studio launches online boutique and disproves stereotypes of Chinese music as screechy opera and kitschy kung-fu soundtracks. Comprehensive catalog makes available music and media from mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan

PRLog (Press Release) - Oct 08, 2009 -
CLEVELAND, OH - Yellow Crane Pavilion (YCP), is pleased to announce the launch of an engaging, content-rich website that interweaves traditional Chinese culture with the 21st century through music and multimedia. YCP’s mission is to provide a platform that explores the interconnections between China and Asian cultures to the West while fostering a sustainable business model that promotes diverse cultures through their gifts of music and art.

The ancient Chinese sages have always considered the universe to be one living interactive system where all parts and processes work together to establish an inner and outer harmony. They believed that music, in particular, had the capacity to carry the human mind into a state of peace and balance.

In addition to compact discs, YCP places heavy emphasis on education and cultural understanding. The online pavilion features detailed glossaries of Chinese instruments and related cultural terms, musical and historical timelines, pronunciation guides, artist interviews, CD photo books with detailed essays about China’s ethnic minority nationalities and a myriad of musical genres.

Speaking on the launch, Josef Bomback, Artistic Director and Executive Producer said, “For almost thirty years, we have been creating, sourcing and producing adventurous recordings from China and beyond. We are musical storytellers who explore differences and relationships.”

OK. But, who actually listens to Chinese music anyway?

Yellow Crane Pavilion’s market research discovered 77% of Chinese music fans are over 30 years of age with 55% over the age of 40.  More than 24% earned a college degree with 40% holding graduate and post-graduate degrees. They are curious and adventurous with art, music and food. They are very comfortable with technology and social media, and frequently travel abroad for business and pleasure.

Bomback adds,  “The deeper the tradition, the more there is to offer. The Chinese musical system began thousands of years ago and at least two millennia before western civilization developed their musical foundations. We display a vitality and integrity that only an insider’s view can give. The music of China is our specialty and our expertise, making us an excellent choice with cultural creatives, educators, libraries, museums and music supervisors for licensing, film, TV and documentary projects.”
