No matter how many parties you host for your child, the one thing you would like your child to say is: "Wow mom, that was a super cool birthday party!" Gone are the days when you could bake a cake, add a few crisps and some home made lemonade, buy a few balloons and every child went home satisfied with the party he or she attended.
If you mention to co-workers or your friends that your child is having a birthday in a month or two and you are considering giving a party, the first question you will hear is: "Oh, what is the theme of the party?" Theme? Yes... Theme! A party without a theme is not considered a party worth attending amongst youngsters these days.
If you can plan a theme party that will have the kids talking for days afterward, you will quickly become the best mom (or dad) on the block and they will remember every party even when they are adults with their own children.
Some people can put together a party without even giving it a second thought while the majority of us find that the thought of yet another birthday party, let alone a theme party, makes us break out into a cold sweat.
The one thing that moms (and dads too) who come up with one theme party after another have in common is that they have mastered the skillful art of organisation and planning of their kids' theme parties.
Some of these organisational skills include the following:
1. A successful kids theme party is planned at least 4 weeks before the actual date.
2. Your child should always be part of every phase of the party planning and preparations;
3. Activities should fit in with the children's ages.
4. There should be a measure of flexibility (for instance if the party takes place outside, it should be possible to carry on with the party inside the house if it suddenly starts raining).
5. Keeping an eye on your budget is very important, as it is quite easy to spend more than you can afford if you plan a theme party for your kid's birthday.
If you sit down and make separate lists for every stage of the party, you will be able to plan your kid's next theme party with confidence. Remember however, a birthday party does not need to be perfect, it should be fun from the moment you start planning it up to the time that you close the door behind the last kid who leaves and your child hugs you and tells you that your ideas for this party was the best ever!
