Migraine-Fibromyalgia Research
--------------------------------------------
The importance of this finding is that using only self-reported data, we have found an association between migraine and fibromyalgia that has previously been explored only in clinical studies such as:
1. 22% of female patients with migraine were found to also have fibromyalgia. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/
2. Migraine, fibromyalgia, depression and anxiety were found to form a “comorbidity constellation”
3. Fibromyalgia is increasingly prevalent with increased headache frequency. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/
Details of the CureTogether Finding
------------------------------------------------
Among 270 people reporting migraine, 72 (27%) reported also having fibromyalgia, and the remaining 198 specifically reported not having fibromyalgia. Among 242 people reporting “no migraine”, 18 (7%) reported having fibromyalgia, and the remaining 224 people specifically reported not having fibromyalgia.
This 27% vs. 7% relative risk is statistically significant, with a 95% confidence interval of 2.2 – 5.9.
