Devil Horns Prosthetics
Staff at Nimba Creations have had ample experience with high-budget effects movies such as King Kong and the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, but now they are turning out professional quality movie prosthetics to ensure that their customers are the best dressed at the Halloween party.
Halloween party enthusiasts have, until now had two choices; either to attempt to make their own gory make up effects or to buy cheap latex pieces from fancy dress retailers. Nimbas new range of Halloween prosthetics bring the quality of the movies to it’s customers for the same price as it’s lower end competitors.
“It’s an area we have been wanting to move into for some years now” Says Tom Lauten, creator of the prosthetics and 20 year veteran of the effects industry. “We started selling prosthetics that are used often in films, such as cut throats and stab wounds, then we were asked to create some devil horns for comedian Jimmy Carr for a photo shoot. I was so happy with the way they turned out and how simple they were to apply, that I created another version and put them online for sale along with our wound prosthetics. Last Halloween, sales of the horns went ballistic – we could barely keep up with production, even though we were casting them 24/7. This year, I thought I would create some pieces specifically for the Halloween market, and once again they are a hit… we had people purchasing them before they even saw photographs of the castings!”
The success of the sales to the Halloween market has inspired Nimba Creations to introduce a section of their online shop entirely dedicated to the sales of monsters, ghouls and gore.
“It wasn’t really a choice” said Siobhan Lauten, who oversees website construction for Nimba Creations. “The items were so popular in and of themselves that we had to create a dedicated space, so that our Halloween buyers and our effects artist buyers could peruse items that focussed on what they wanted to see. We also like that fact that people who are buying these items are getting out there and ‘having a go’. It’s not just dedicated professionals who are taking advantage of our work any more, we are also catering to those who are purely out to have fun, which we think is great.”
