Oct. 7, 2009 - PRLog -- Brattleborro, VT. Google got so big so quickly in the world of search because they are the BEST at it, and the best search engine in the world translates into the best tool for users. It's all about the people. Give them something awesome to use and they'll never leave.

Internet Marketing and Lead Generation are occasionally seen as being evil in some way. Some of this negative attention stems from illegal spam practices, and some from dishonest marketers. However, in your own online business, the key is to do what Google already does -- give back. Our main focus in Internet Marketing should be to help other people succeed.

It only takes a quick look at some of the most successful individuals online today to realize that being there for your customers is the true key to long term success. If you help somebody out they will remember you positively and recommend you to everyone they know.

What exactly does it mean to "give value" or "give back"? In Google's case it includes projects that use Google's highly developed search algorithms to track disease searches by country. This is extremely valuable around the world as it helps governments determine where disease might be developing, and where it could spread to.

How can you do the same in your online business?

Take a look at your customers. What do they want? What could really help them achieve success? A great way to find some of this out is to do an Ask Campaign or a Survey Monkey survey. Ask people what they want to learn, and how they want to learn it. Find out what the most common hang-ups are.

With newbie Internet Marketers the first problems they encounter might seem simple to you, but that is the kind of information you can be helping them out with. Remember you were there yourself at some point. Become the mentor you wish you had. It might even be something as simple as recommending a super-solid, highly reliable autoresponder, like Ninjaresponder. A good tip like that could be gold to someone wondering what to do.

Giving value means when someone signs up for your email list and you promise them a weekly newsletter for doing so, make sure those newsletters are full of helpful advice.

The most read and respected newsletters online do just that, they give the reader so much valuable information for free that the subscriber can get a good start just from reading the free newsletters.

Here's the really cool part though, often those who hang out in the background or "lurkers" will turn into customers because they realize you really want to help them and what you have to teach and sell truly works. You will establish long term customers by giving and continuing to give value.

Sometimes when you are starting out online, your friends and family will react negatively. They may be incorrectly associating spammers with reputable Internet Marketers, and they might also have had bad experiences with a dishonest online businesses. Don't listen to them. Instead, find a reputable, honest marketer that you trust. Follow his or her example. See how they provide value to their customers and prospects. Do the same.

At the end of the day, remember that there is nothing evil or wrong about making money online. If you are truly bettering people's lives and helping them fulfill their dreams, then you are on the right path. Google makes billions and still gives back. You can and should do the same.
