40 years old Carolyn Savage booked in for an IVF, with no idea that a responsible infertility clinic could possibly implant her with an embryo belonging to another couple.
Carolyn from Ohio, gave birth to a healthy baby boy and instantly handed him back to the biological parents of Detroit, Paul and Shannon Morell.
An infertility clinic transferred the embryo belonging to the Morrells, to Carolyn, in February. After 10 days the Savages were notified that Caroline was pregnant with someone else’s child.
The Savages had been having great difficulty in conceiving and carrying a child, so to hear that Carolyn was finally pregnant was wonderful news. That was until “They delivered the worst news of our life,” states Sean Savage.
The Morrells were told about the clinic’s error, one day later. When Shannon Morell learned of the clinic’s error, she was petrified that the Savages would choose to abort the child, rather than to carry it full-term. This would have ended the Morells’ possibility of giving their 2 year-old twin girls a sibling. At the time, the two families did not know each other.
Carolyn and her husband Sean said they never even considered terminating the pregnancy, or even trying to fight for custody. However it was a few days before the Morells learned the Savages were prepared to hand over the baby without hesitation.
“We didn’t know who it was. We didn’t know if they didn’t have children, or if this was their last chance for a child.” Carolyn Savage said “This was someone else’s child".
“It’s been a long and difficult journey and we’re thrilled that our family is now complete,” the Morrells said. “We will be eternally grateful for his guardian angel, Carolyn Savage and the support of the entire Savage family".
The Savages have hired attorneys who say they are working to make absolute certain the infertility clinic accepts full responsibility.
