Memidex online dictionary/thesaurus
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PR Log (Press Release) –
Oct 06, 2009 – Memidex online dictionary and thesaurus (memidex.com) has released three new free tools that are among the quickest and easiest ways to get definitions without leaving a web page: a cross-browser bookmarklet, an "accelerator" for Internet Explorer 8, and a search box with on-page definitions and auto-suggest features.
A "bookmarklet" is a small piece of code that you can add to your browser like a a regular URL bookmark (or "favorite", as referred to in Internet Explorer). To get a definition, you simply select text on any web page and then click this special bookmark. Unlike other bookmarklets, the Memidex dictionary bookmarklet shows information directly on the current web page, and it's cross-browser compatible having been tested with recent versions of Internet Explorer (version 6 and later), Firefox, Safari, Chrome, and Opera.
An "accelerator" for Internet Explorer 8 (or later) is contextual menu option to quickly access web services from any web page. The Memidex accelerator adds "Define with Memidex" to your accelerator menu and can be used instead of, or in addition to, the Memidex bookmarklet.
For webmasters, Memidex provides free source code to add a dictionary/thesaurus search box to any web page. Now, Memidex also provides optional on-page definition and auto-suggest features for the search box. The on-page definition feature provides basic definitions without leaving the current web page (like the Memidex bookmarklet) and the auto-suggest feature displays, while the user types, a drop-down menu of the next alphabetically closest entries.
