Plans to develop a Tesco store in Nottingham would create 200 jobs in the Midlands if approved by the local authority.
The UK's largest retailer has submitted proposals to rebuild an outlet in Carton Hill, which would allow Tesco to increase its workforce at the site from 245 to 445 staff members, the Nottingham Evening Post reported.
Gedling Borough Council's planning committee will consider the application today (September 16th), which is also expected to create temporary construction jobs during the building phase.
Vernon Coaker, Labour MP for Gedling, backed the proposal and claimed that it will provide a "much-needed boost to the local economy".
He told the newspaper: "In the long term it will create a further 200 jobs and, although some people worry about its impact on other local shops, it will actually draw people into the area."
Last month, Tesco also announced that the development of an eco-store in Northumberland will create 200 retail jobs in the north of England.
