Through its partnerships with the Australian Institute of Management (AIM) and Melbourne Business School/Mt Eliza, Baptcare has fought off tough competition and been selected as a finalist in the NATIONAL ACCOLADES FOR EXCELLENCE – the awards program for the nationally focused Community Services and Health Industry Skills Council.
In an industry where there are chronic workforce shortages, Baptcare is on the ‘front foot’ ensuring its workers have access to some of the best professional development opportunities in the country.
“I am inspired by the positive changes and real difference learning makes in people’s work and life. It is difficult to underestimate how formal learning can enrich people’s practice and quality of care our clients receive” explained Thera Storie, General Manager, Human Resources, Baptcare.
Baptcare entered the awards in the Workforce Development in Community Services category. Key aspects of the project were:
• To engage and educate staff through various professional development opportunities;
• To offer all managers access to the AIM Graduate Certificate in Management, along with subsidizing post graduate training;
• Provide access to the Diploma of Frontline Management to all staff;
• To develop extensive and generous paid parental, grandparent, carers, community and study leave.
Baptcare offers quality residential aged care services to over 850 residents and care for over 2000 elderly individuals who wish to remain living in their own homes. Its family services division supports over 700 vulnerable or disadvantaged children, families and people with a disability.
Industry Skills Council Research, Development and Policy Manager, Robin Flynn explained the need for such a prestigious awards program, “With over a million people employed, the Community Services and Health Industries are one of the largest employer groups in the country, and underpin the national economy. In fact, when other industries are shrinking, these industries continue to grow and employ more and more Australians. Everyday. The Community Services and Health Industry Skills Council established the awards program to recognize excellence in the industries which support and care for our entire country”
The winner of the National Accolades For Excellence Awards will be announced at a Gala Dinner in Melbourne on October 21st.
