From Short Film Producer to TV Mogul

In 2007 independent filmmaker Angelo Bell made the last of 10 short films. Just two short years later he is now promoting the primetime network television airing of his movie-of-the-week/feature film "The Broken Hearts Club." BHC was handpicked by the AMGTV network in the US for primetime viewing as a six-part mini-series beginning October 19th. In Western Europe BHC will air on the Global Broadcast Network as a MOW, spanning territories in the UK, France, Italy, Germany and Croatia. As a result Mr. Bell has transformed himself from low-budget indie filmmaker to TV mogul, with his sights set on producing a second season of "The Broken Hearts Club."

"Broken Hearts Club" is a romantic comedy drama that depicts the lives of real people having real problems with love. In this day of therapists and TV psychologists the series proclaims that all therapists aren't create equal. It throws a curve ball at the establishment with the question, "What does a clinical psychiatrist do when his criminally insane patients are replaced with the clinically heart-broken?" Shot on a shoestring budget, BHC made the international rounds, screening at festivals in Canada, the United Kingdom and Italy. In the US the film has screened at prestigious film festivals in California and South Carolina. Despite the challenges associated with low-budget independent filmmaking, Angelo has managed to carve out a niche for his film that could prove to be profitable. After going 0-10 in film festival submissions, Angelo targeted specific niche festivals. Building upon the success of acceptance and through the promotion of the film on his blog, AngeloBell.com, Angelo parlayed a single screening into world wide interest.

The overall state of independent filmmaking is unknown at this point. Sites such as YouTube, Hulu and now iTunes now provide indie fare. However, unlike Amazon, which clearly established itself as a leader or online book retailer, the sites mentioned have not significantly separated from the hundreds of other indie sites. However, Angelo has proven that independent filmmakers need not settle for online distribution. The cable and network TV markets are always hungry for good content.
