In the grip of recession, faced with impending redundancy and with a 40th birthday looming, a mother of two has taken the initiative, launching a new online gift and homeware shop.

From the elegant to the extravagant, the fun to the funky, the retro to the ridiculous, the stylish to the sassy, Spotty Button has got something for every taste, mood and budget - ideas which will inspire you and your home.
Founder, Emma Rigby, 39, has been a midwife for almost 20 years. “I came to the inclusion that juggling the roles of cook, cleaner and taxi to two young children with a job I was becoming increasingly disillusioned with, was not what life was about”, she explains.
“Flicking through my pile of home, garden and lifestyle magazines one Sunday, the first shoots of Spotty Button took hold, hung around and wouldn't let go. Not from one of those boil-in-the-
“I could tell you that we’ve got a buyer on every continent but I’d be lying. With the help of a few friends, I’m the one who chooses each product and pays the bills, the one who clocks up the miles at trade fairs and stays up till all hours to get orders out. And to be honest I like it that way.”
So that’s the simple story of Spotty Button. It’s by no means a glamorous one, littered with awards and the carcasses of those who doubted – not yet anyway. But it’s certainly been enormously enjoyable so far and promises much, much more in the years to come.
