One of the UK's smallest energy suppliers First Utility has held on to its title as the UK's cheapest energy supplier by reducing its popular tariff Smart Online Saver v1 further. This came just hours after one of the big six - E.On - reduced its best tariff to briefly become the UK's cheapest domestic energy supplier.
The fact that First Utility responded to the E.On price cut within hours shows just how determined they are to hold on the 'UK's cheapest' title. E.On's tariff Fix Online v3, promises to fix domestic energy prices until December 2010 but comes with a cancellation charge of £10 should the customer choose to switch away before then.
No cancellation charges come with First Utilities tariff. Yet despite these rapid price cuts millions of customers still fail to take advantage and end up paying hundreds of pounds a year more than what they should do.
Just by choosing to pay by direct debit and opting to manage their account online (enter meter readings and read their bills via the suppliers website) customers can make huge savings - especially those that currently receive their gas and electricity from different suppliers.
