The Kent/South East London leafy borders town of Beckenham is Twittering. It’s not the local birds but the newest local website set up by and for neighbours and called http://www.BeckenhamTown.US .
In fact the .US is very important to the Beckenham site, because it is a site that is inclusive to all those in and around the local area to add their discussions, events, information, services, music, video, pictures etc to.
Beckenham’s website has embraced social media and encourages visitors to the site to become members and Twitter too, share their Twitter addresses so that other members of the site can interact and create a real virtual neihgbourhood which spills over into the real world with more locals aware of their neighbours, local issues and creating great friendships.
As founder Jon Clarke says “It realy is a site for all of .US in Beckenham and its borders, and I hope it grows in recognition across the local area. I wanted an easy to use site, something everyone could use and engage with, even if they had little or no internet knowledge.”
The site was set up using Ning.com’s social networks solution and has steadily grown a membership both online and via Twitter. www.Twitter.com/
