Nicholas Price spent 18 months, from 2005 to 2007, capturing images of the men and women of the U.S. Air Force to tell the story of their pride and dedication, stamina and service. Price took more than 8,000 photographs and painstakingly selected 60 to become the touring exhibition "Cleared Hot! An Exclusive and Personal Photographic Journey into the U.S. Air Force."
The Library of Congress has acquired these 60 large-format, black-and-white photographs, which are available for viewing by researchers in the Library's Prints and Photographs Division.
"The 60 photographs create a valuable visual story for understanding the hard work and deep commitment of today's military," said Helena Zinkham, acting chief of the Prints and Photographs Division. "This compelling photographic essay, created to honor the men and women of the Air Force, enriches the Library's collections by providing a contemporary counterpart to our historic resources."
The high quality photography book , also titled "Cleared Hot!, is being released as a limited collector's edition of only 500 copies being made available worldwide. It includes all 60 of the black and white photographs from the collection and we are treated to a preview of some of the other photographs that were taken during the period .
Each copy of the book is signed by Price. Also included is a commemorative edition print of the iconic photo from the collection titled "Honor Guard".
Forewords and introduction are provided by Zinkham and General John Jumper, the former joint chief of the USAF.
Price provides his candid and detailed commentary of his unique journey throughout the book
Price was involved with entire editing process of the book, "I wanted this book to be a cross between a fine art coffee table book and a book that would really tell my side of a very personal story and how I attempted to document this enormous undertaking, my story is theirs (the airmen's) and without the ability to co-operate with each other in every sense of the word this would not have been possible. It was an opportunity for me to show how, without interference or an agenda being applied to my undertaking as a civilian in a military environment, I was able to get the results I have achieved" said Price.
The book is published by Tough Tribe Publishing in association with Nicholas Price Enterprises and is available online only at www.NAPrice.com. It is priced at $195.00 plus shipping and handling. ISBN 978-0-9798390-
Fine Art Photography by Nicholas A. Price has long since become highly coveted among private collectors and established institutions alike.
