Some of the countries aged cannot abide to be crammed into a dank, sterilized nursing home. They long for the days when they lived on their own, when they could do as they pleased when they pleased. To many of them, the nursing home is nothing more than a prison. A prison they have to live in due to various reasons. But should becoming older be a crime? Of course it shouldn’t be. That is why several states will be working to help the population in nursing homes find homes of their own if they so desire it.
Medicaid is working with several state programs to help the elderly suffering from low-income or other illnesses. They want it to be known that once someone enters a nursing home, they don’t necessarily have to stay there for the rest of their lives. The states involved in implementing this new program are striving to make more options available for the elderly population so that they may have more services in their own homes.
As of now, it is unknown what the cost of these new programs will entail. By federal law, states are required to make nursing home facilities available. However, many states have slacked on offering home services and other community programs merely because they do not have to and think other areas need the funding more. Hopefully, With Medicaid and the states working together, many of the nation’s elderly will be able to live free lives of their own design until the end of their days.
