Podcast with legendary Swiss architect Peter Zumthor is now online

Peter Zumthor is one of Switzerland’s most influential living architects, perhaps most famous for his minimal, cathedral-like spa building at Therme Vals in the mountains of Graubünden, in his home nation. His work reflects his desire to merge his structures into the surrounding environment.
This year he was chosen as the Laureate of the Pritzker Architecture Prize, joining the esteemed ranks of Sir Norman Foster, Richard Rogers, Zaha Hadid and Herzog and de Meuron. Yet for the last few decades he’s created his international projects from his small timber-clad home and atelier in the tiny village of Haldenstein in the Swiss mountains.
This is where Zumthor, who’s now 66, works with a group of twenty young architects, who come from all over the world to learn from him.
Zumthor explains how he started in his career and describes his uncompromising philosophy of architecture to independent journalist and presenter Jennifer Davies – also the editor and founder of design/culture magazine Inside Switzerland Magazine– on her radio show Swiss By Design, on World Radio Switzerland. The publicity-shy Zumthor also shows Jennifer a controversial new project for an island in the middle of Lake Zurich.
