Criminal Defense Attorney Leah Mayersohn Successfully Gets the State to Not File Charges in a 10/20/life Firearm Case

Ft. Lauderdale, FL – Ft. Lauderdale Criminal Defense Attorney Leah H. Mayersohn, of the Mayersohn Law Group, P.A., successfully gets the court to not file the charges of an aggravated assault with a firearm that had a 10/20/life sentencing. Mayersohn assisted client in entering a rehabilitation facility.

Mayersohn’s client was a drug addict. Upon trying to quit drugs, an old drug dealer began soliciting sales from the client and trying to collect a small debt he alleged he was owed. Unsuccessful at his attempt, the drug dealer began harassing and threatening the life of one of the parents of the client. Opting to take matters into his own hands, the client and three friends drove to his former dealer’s home to confront him about the death threats. One of the friends brought a gun in the car. During the confrontation, the former drug dealer stabbed the client; in an attempt to protect himself Mayersohn’s client grabbed the friend’s gun. He struggled with the dealer and the gun went off and the dealer was shot. In the state of Florida, if a weapon is used and fired during the commission of a crime, the case becomes a 10/20/life case. The defendant was facing a twenty-year minimum mandatory prison sentence.
