Carolina Tire is providing, free tire rotation, free air pressure adjustments, free flat repairs, free fluid checks and $9.99 standard oil and standard filter changes, which include a comprehensive vehicle check at its South Charlotte, area.
The dealership is also providing repairs at cost, according to Carolina Tire President Jim Seidel. "If they need (further) service, we will buy the parts and rebuild them at cost and then charge only $29.99 an hour for labor."
The idea is to make customers' vehicles road worthy so they can continue their job search, he says. To qualify for the program, customers must:
1. Schedule an appointment at Carolina Tire - 704-553-9800
2. Present proof of unemployment, including a federal or state unemployment determination letter and an unemployment check stub.
3. Present proof of vehicle ownership, including vehicle registration.
A lot of people have taken advantage of the offer, which will run through the end of 2009, says Seidel. "We're trying to limit it to three a day at the store, so we have some room for profitable business. I think as word gets out, more and more people are coming in."
The biggest repair performed so far has been a timing belt & water pump job.
Carolina Tire has not asked for help from any of its tire or parts suppliers. "We didn't want people to think there's some kind of catch to this," says Seidel who adds that he knows the effect economic downturn has had on people. “Auto repairs and tires are the last thing people are probably thinking about when unemployed.”
Carolina Tire, formerly Pineville Tire before they were bought out is in its 12th year in business and is owned and operated by XL Tire, Inc. of Indian Land, South Carolina.
