Run Vehicle Title History Reports Prior to Car Purchases

Know what you are buying before you buy with a title history, recommends InsuranceAgents.com.

Oct. 21, 2009 - PRLog -- Chicago (InsuranceAgents.com) – Whether you are looking to buy a used or new car, its important for buyers to look for certain things in order to make sure they are driving away in a car they can rely on. Used car pose more of a risk to buyers because unless bought from a dealer, there is no warranty and if something goes wrong after your purchase, it’s your responsibility to fix.

In a recent article posted by InsuranceAgents.com, “Search Vehicle Title History,” they point out the importance of not only test driving your vehicle but running a title history report before purchasing. “First you need to run the vehicle’s 17 character identification number, or VIN, through any online database that deals with title histories,” states the article. Websites like Carfax.com and AutoCheck.com will provide a full history of your car that includes information about any past mechanical problems, past fire or storm damage, if the vehicle has ever been stolen, odometer fraud, how many times the cars title has transferred owners and a mileage report. These are problems that even the current owner is not aware of, which is why its important for you to make sure there is no damage to a used car you are about to buy without your knowledge.

Title histories are more commonly run for used cars sold by individual sellers and not by dealerships because they offer warranties on used car purchases. However, a vehicle history report can be run on any car built after 1981 and it never hurts to be certain.
