The opening of a new department store in Derbyshire will generate employment opportunities for 100 local labour market members.
T J Hughes has announced the £1 million transformation of a former Woolworths store in Derby's Westfield shopping complex, which will provide retail jobs for unemployed workers in the Midlands, the Derby Telegraph reported.
Scheduled to be opened on September 22nd, the 20,000 sq ft department store will offer discounted products from brands including Dyson, Kenwood, Sanyo and Panasonic.
Chris McKeown, sales director for TJ Hughes, expressed confidence that the store will thrive despite the economic downturn.
He told the local newspaper: "We are delighted to confirm we are opening a new store in September.
"When it opens, it will fill a little niche in the city that hasn't been filled for some time."
Last week, the news provider also revealed that 70 new skilled tradespersons jobs will be generated in Derby thanks to Hodgkinson Bricklaying Contractors securing contracts worth £3 million.
